Job Summary:

The Product Engineer (Cable) is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting the cable and wire assemblies for rack product. The engineer ensures that all rack builds are consistent, efficient, and meet quality and regulatory requirements.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, standardize, and improve rack build processes for cable assembly.
  • Create accurate and detailed build instructions, work instructions, and visual aids for production.
  • Define assembly steps including cutting, stripping, crimping, soldering, labeling, looming, overbraiding, potting, testing, and final inspection.
  • Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and test equipment for rack assembly.
  • Support production teams by resolving issues related to tooling, methods, component availability, or interpretation of work instructions.
  • Partner with PM to clarify drawings, pinouts, schematics, and customer specifications.
  • Train assemblers and technicians on processes, tooling, crimping standards, and best practices.
  • Develop visual guides, sample boards, and reference materials to improve consistency and reduce build time.
  • Support first-article builds and pilot runs for new or revised harness designs.
  • Domestic and international business travel, less than 30% of the time.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, Electrical Technology, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of cable and rack assembly processes.
  • Experience writing manufacturing work instructions, or standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, connector datasheets, and BOMs.
  • Hands-on experience with crimp tools, strip tools, continuity testers, and other harness assembly equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent written communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and respond quickly to production needs.
