Why This Role Matters:

Supermicro is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Cabling Specialist to join our growing infrastructure team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for executing structured cabling projects in data center and Server rooms environments, ensuring installation accuracy, performance reliability, and compliance with industry standards. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to plan, install, test, and maintain network and communication cabling in high-availability environments.

What You’ll Do:

As a Data Center Cabling Specialist, you’ll:

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute cabling projects, including installation, termination, and testing of network and communication cables. Typically in capacity of site lead for small to large projects.
  • Conduct site surveys and assess cabling requirements to determine appropriate materials, equipment, and resources needed for each project
  • Collaborate with project managers and infrastructure engineers to develop structured cabling plans and layouts.
  • Perform cable terminations, splicing, and testing, including fiber optics, copper, and coaxial cables, to ensure optimal network performance
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and compliance with relevant electrical and building codes during all installations.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose complex cabling issues including signal loss, cross-talk, or physical damage.
  • Maintain and update accurate records of installations, testing certifications, and cable labeling documentation.
  • Manage and track inventory of cabling materials, tools, and related installation hardware.
  • Provide ongoing support and infrastructure changes in the data center & server rooms.
  • Serve as main on-site contact for questions and/or concerns related to cabling or similar work; attend facility and constructions meetings when required.

 

What you'll bring:

You bring expertise, leadership, and a passion for innovation. You are an experienced professional with:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in cabling systems, such as BICSI Technician is preferred.
  • 4+ years of experience in structured cabling or low-voltage cabling projects in data center or commercial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of cable types (Cat5e, Cat6, fiber), termination methods, and cable certification standards.
  • Familiarity with cable testing equipment (e.g., Fluke testers) and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret network layouts, blueprints, and cabling schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail, labeling, and documentation practices.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in raised floor or overhead ladder rack environments.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Maneuvering on uneven ground and climb ladders.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 35lbs.
  • Must be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time while using tools and perform repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to travel if required.

Salary Range

$72,000 - $83,000 

The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
