Job Summary:

Reporting to the VP Corporate Controller, the Senior Director of Tax oversees all aspects of Supermicro domestic and international tax related matters including ASC740 income tax provision, reserves and related 10-K and 10-Q disclosures, transfer pricing and implement tax strategies to optimize tax.  Designs operational procedures and processes that meet audit standards and improve efficiency.  This position involves significant interaction with external auditors, finance staff, and process owners in other functions.  Ensures proper and contemporaneous documentation of tax positions. Hires, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • •    Manage all aspects of the Company’s worldwide ASC 740 income tax provision and financial statement disclosures
    •    Conduct analysis and documentation for FIN 48 reserves
    •    Analyze U.S. and international tax matters related to Super Micro’s international activities, including identification of issues, development of effective and efficient strategies, and driving implementation of solutions to optimize tax
    •    Manage the preparation and review of U.S. federal and state income and franchise tax returns, extensions, and estimated payments, including R&D credit study analysis, and ensure timely and accurate submission
    •    Review and oversee international tax filings
    •    Forecasting and analysis of quarterly and annual effective tax rates. Work with FP&A to improve forecasting accuracy
    •    Monitor and analyze tax regulatory and compliance developments, accounting pronouncements, tax law changes, and analyze/document impact to the Company
    •    Advise accounting team members regarding global transfer pricing and intercompany arrangements
    •    Review and approve international tax filings at our international locations
    •    Perform research, analysis and business support on significant transactions
    •    Provide guidance to senior members of the finance team to enable them to understand key issues around our tax planning, including risks, benefits, and financial impact to the company
    •    Provide support on the international tax aspects of tax examinations and lead inquiries by the IRS and foreign tax authorities
    •    Ensure Company's income tax accounting review and documentation processes and related systems are in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
    •    Coach and develop tax personnel


  • 15+ years of corporate tax and tax provision experience at Big 4 and in-house. Specifically, provision experience working for multinational high-tech companies with international IP structures is required.
  • Solid knowledge of ASC 740 and related accounting pronouncements, strong documentation skills and experience with implementing and maintaining effective internal controls over financial
  • Strong foundation of tax technical knowledge and compliance experience
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize work
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, with cross functional teams, upper management, and outside consultants
  • Competence to clearly and effectively communicate tax requirements to leaders in functional groups throughout the company
  • CPA preferred, Masters in Taxation or LLM in Taxation a plus
