Job Summary:

Super Micro Computer is seeking a passionate candidate to take on the responsibilities of Sr. Thermal Engineer. The position will be responsible for the cluster level architecture, design, analysis, and validation of water cooling technologies to meet HPC customer needs. This role utilizes and champions a design process based on estimating, simulating, and testing the thermal performance of new products and architectures. The ideal candidate will have a strong fundamental background in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and the implementation of thermal solutions in enterprise electronics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Includes the following essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):

• Responsible for development, design, documentation and deployment of all rack scale water cooling customer projects.

• Collaborate with cross-functional team in design of liquid cooling components and provide independent thermal engineering assessment to help the team make critical design decisions

• Optimize end-to-end cooling solutions for all aspects of their performance, cost, and reliability

• Work with the rack integration and solutions team and PMs to direct and assist technicians as needed in daily activity, including job assignments

• Work closely with engineering groups in other departments to ensure rack team procedures/data meets expectations

• Work with the testing team with to define test plans as per internal standards or customer requirements

• Additional responsibilities will include rack integration, documentation, facilities preparation, on-site service, & PM/Sales/Field Application Engineer customer project support.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor degree in Aerospace, Thermal, or Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree is a plus

• Minimum 8 years of industrial experience in thermal/mechanical engineering with relevant experience in IT/Data Center thermal management

• Strong understanding in fundamentals of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and thermodynamics

• Deep understanding of data center infrastructure design objectives, performance metrics and physical requirements

• Knowledge of mechanical/thermals (cooling devices, air flow, temp, power, cooling, mechanical design) with electrical/power (power distribution, AC power types, power calculations, DC power, regulatory/safety) is a plus

• Server/Rack Liquid Cooling solutions experiences are plus which include DCL(direct chip liquid cooling), rear door liquid cooling, liquid immersion cooling, chilled water piping, etc. is a plus

• Knowledge of ASHRAE Data Center Guidelines and Uptime institute regulations and best practices.

• Working knowledge of HVAC controls, BMS protocols and thermal control/monitoring.

• Must have good working spirit and work well in a team and fast-paced environment

• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

• Solid communication skills, both verbal and written

• Able to travel for on-site customer deployments

 

Please note that this position requires regular in-office attendance. The successful candidate is expected to be present in the office during standard working hours as determined by the company. In-office collaboration and participation in team meetings, training sessions, and other on-site activities are essential aspects of this role. Candidates should consider the commuting distance and be prepared to fulfill their responsibilities in the designated office location.

Salary Range

$145,000 - $159,000 

The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
